Community Action Scholarships

At Community Action, we fight poverty. We are a place of hope and support to individuals and communities. Education is proven to be an effective poverty-fighting asset. Your Community Action Agency wants to help you get the education you need to be economically secure.

We are now accepting applications for 2017 Scholarships! Deadline is July 31, 2017. 

Community Action’s 2017 available scholarship resources are $2,000. We will award one or more scholarships from that amount, based on assessment of applications received.




Eligibility Criteria:

  • Annual household income at or below 125% of the Federal Poverty Level
  • Resident of Clay, Cloud, Dickinson, Ellsworth, Geary, Lincoln, McPherson, Ottawa, Russell, Saline, Shawnee, or, Wabaunsee county in Kansas
  • Enrolling in at least 9 or more hours of post- secondary education for the Winter, 2017-2018 semester
  • Has an identified career goal within the human/ social services, or early childhood education fields

Additionally, applicants must submit a compelling, 1000 or less word essay describing how their community and volunteer service experience has impacted their decisions to pursue a degree in their selected field.

Important Dates:

DEADLINE: Applications must be completed by July 31, 2017 online.

FINALISTS/DOCUMENTATION: Applicants selected as finalists will be notified by August 15 of further information necessary to document eligibility. All required documentation must be provided by August 31, 2017.

NOTIFICATION/AWARD: Scholarship recipients will be notified by September 15, 2017 and will be asked to attend an October 12 evening event to receive the award.


NOTICES: All decisions made by Community Action, Inc. will be considered final and applicants not selected will have no appeal rights. This scholarship opportunity is made possible, in part, through the Federally-funded Community Services Block Grant.
