At Community Action, we fight poverty. We are a place of hope and support to individuals and communities. Education is proven to be an effective poverty-fighting asset. Your Community Action Agency wants to help you get the education you need to be economically secure.
In 2019, Community Action has up to $2,000 available to award. We will award one or more scholarships from that amount. The award will be non-renewable and one-time.
- Annual household income at or below 125% of the Federal Poverty Level (see the 2018 Poverty Guidelines Chart below)
- Resident of Clay, Cloud, Dickinson, Ellsworth, Geary, Lincoln, McPherson, Ottawa, Russell, Saline, Shawnee, or, Wabaunsee County in Kansas
- Enrolling in at least 9 or more hours of post-secondary education for the Fall, 2019-2020 semester
Additionally, applicants must submit a compelling, 500 to 1000-word essay describing how their community and volunteer service experience has impacted their decisions to pursue a degree in their selected field.
DEADLINE: Applications must be completed by February 1, 2019 online.
FINALISTS/DOCUMENTATION: Applicants selected as finalists will be notified by February 28 of further information necessary to document eligibility. All required documentation must be provided by March 8, 2019.
NOTIFICATION/AWARD: Scholarship recipients will be notified by March 29, 2019, and will be asked to attend a May 9th early-evening event to meet the agency Board of Directors.
NOTICES: All decisions made by Community Action, Inc. will be considered final and applicants not selected will have no appeal rights. This scholarship opportunity is made possible, in part, through the Federally-funded Community Services Block Grant.
