Community Action Scholarships
At Community Action, we fight poverty. We are a place of hope and support to individuals and communities. Education is proven to be an effective poverty-fighting asset. Your Community Action Agency wants to help you get the education you need to be economically secure.
In 2018, Community Action has $2,000 available to award. We will award one or more scholarships from that amount. The award will be non-renewable and one-time.APPLY HERE
- Annual household income at or below 125% of the Federal Poverty Level (see the 2018 Poverty Guidelines Chart below)
- Resident of Clay, Cloud, Dickinson, Ellsworth, Geary, Lincoln, McPherson, Ottawa, Russell, Saline, Shawnee, or, Wabaunsee county in Kansas
- Enrolling in at least 9 or more hours of post- secondary education for the Fall, 2018-2019 semester
- Preferably has an identified career goal within the human/social services, or early childhood education fields (although other fields will also be considered)
Additionally, applicants must submit a compelling, 500 to 1000-word essay describing how their community and volunteer service experience has impacted their decisions to pursue a degree in their selected field.
DEADLINE: Applications must be completed by May 31, 2018 online.
FINALISTS/DOCUMENTATION: Applicants selected as finalists will be notified by June 30 of further information necessary to document eligibility. All required documentation must be provided by July 13, 2018.
NOTIFICATION/AWARD: Scholarship recipients will be notified by July 31, 2018 and will be asked to attend an September 13 early-evening event to meet the agency Board of Directors.
