Overwhelmed with medical and traveling expenses, his parents were facing eviction, and the uncertainty of Ricky’s illness.

Rickey and his family were no strangers to Community Action— in 2009 they benefited from the weatherization program that helped them save money on utilities. They were making ends meet, until a gas leak led to a discovery of a bad water heater and gas line that had to be replaced. Unfortunately, Rickey’s family did not have the funds to fix the issue, and the fire department was forced to turn the gas off for safety reasons, leaving them with a faulty water heater, gas lines, and no hot water.READ MORE
